MyAxelos – developing skills and building careers in best practice

In a recent webinar AXELOS’ head of Professional Development, Amrit Saroya, and Global Marketing Lead, Emer O’Sullivan, explained the ins, outs and benefits of My AXELOS for best practice professionals.

Whether you’re ITIL^®, PRINCE2^®, PRINCE2 Agile^® or MSP^®-certified, My AXELOS is about helping you on your individual, professional development journey.

What you may have known previously as AXELOS Membership has now been updated to online content subscription MyAxelos to better articulate the services on offer to you.

We’ve collected these services into four main strands: support me, develop me connect me and endorse me

Support me

This selection of services is about providing tools to help you solve work-related problems:

1. Best practice publications
With this you get online access for one year to core guidance covering ITIL, PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile and MSP.

In addition, you can obtain other publications that rotate each quarter. Current examples include, Secrets of Service Level Management (ITIL), The MSP Survival Guide for Programme Managers and Fundamentals of Benefits Realization (PPM).

2. Best practice templates

Customizable templates allow you to apply your best practice knowledge in reality, with guidance on how to undertake specific tasks such as preparing a business case or a KPI balance checklist.

3. Thought leadership

We have new ITSM and PPM white papers available only through My AXELOS. Some example titles include Business relationship management and the nine ITIL guiding principles and the “Hardwired for Project Failure” series of white papers which explores the cognitive biases which may be contributing to project failure.

Also available are our DevOps awareness learning modules showing you how the delivery method aligns to ITIL guidance plus discounts to publications (including. Project Manager Today) and events, such as workshops from itSMFUK.

4. Exam guidance
This includes videos to provide hints and tips to passing exams in ITIL, PRINCE2 and MSP.

Develop me

The Skills Framework has been developed with global organizations and aligned to all major best practice frameworks in the ITSM and PPM space to create an industry-standard which you can use to maps out your skills development with specific training and certifications.

All you have to do is provide your current job role and the skills framework assesses you against an industry benchmark. This will provide a “map” showing where your skills are now and where you should be, plus a library of recommended content focused on developing those skills areas. That includes white papers, webinars and training courses.

Connect me

To help practitioners build connections in their industry, engage in conversations with fellow professionals and share knowledge, My AXELOS provides community forums, a community blog and access to private groups and forums. The latter gives you access to subject matter experts and invites you to get involved with the latest developments at AXELOS, such as the ITIL update; giving you first hand access and insight into new guidance development.

Endorse me

Claiming digital badges is both an online acknowledgement of your certification and a demonstration of your potential value to employers and peers.

When asked about the value of digital badges, our latest subscriber satisfaction survey showed that top reasons are:

To maintain your digital badge for ITIL, PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile and MSP, you need to log 20 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points per year.

MyAxelos's approach to CPD combines our insight into what we think you need with what you think you need from learning activities. The allocation of points breaks down into a number of areas:

Professional experience: you need to gain 5 points annually from showing you are applying best practices in your workplace.

Training: up to 15 points can be logged through obtaining an AXELOS or other certification; a one-day training course earns you one point per hour.

Community: 15 points is available for active community participation (writing white papers or blog posts; contributing to conversations) while passive participation earns five points passive (e.g. consuming content).

Self-study: enables you to gain a maximum of five points.

Is MyAxelos for you?

My AXELOS subscription is available free for three months to anyone newly-certified in ITIL Foundation, Intermediate, Practitioner or PRINCE2 Practitioner or PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner. You will receive an activation email from AXELOS after passing your exam and will be automatically issued with a digital badge for one year.

Alternatively, professionals with existing certifications can obtain a paid subscription for £50 per year.
